Giving thanks

We all have so much in life to be thankful for.  No doubt some of us are going through harder times and some of us are cruising through life atop the clouds right now.  But even in the darkest of places there are blessings to be found if we just keep our eyes open to see them.  And even while flitting across the cloudtops we need a reminder that we didn’t get up there on our own and that we have much to be thankful for.

I have been blessed with a wonderful family, and I am so thankful for their love and laughter.  My wife and I moved our young family halfway across the country for work, and we have had a crazy but wonderful time settling into our new home and new town.  Our daughter turned one last month, and just over a week ago stood up for the first time and took her first few toddling steps along the edge of the coffee table.  And yesterday she figured out how to climb an entire flight of stairs!  Look out Mommy and Daddy!

On the writing front, I am thankful for the revolution that has occurred in self-publishing.  The advent of the e-reader and of widespread print-on-demand trade paperback publishing has enabled countless other indie authors like me to publish their work and tell their stories to millions of readers around the globe.  And it has allowed me to fulfill that dream as well.  I may not have a million readers yet (let’s start with just one  :-)  ).  But what a joy it is to know that some of my stories have already been published and can be read and enjoyed by others.  And how exciting it is to know that there are many more stories to come!

So those are three of the things I’m most thankful for:  a loving family, a new home, and my new adventure as an indie fantasy author.  I have to say that it’s been a great year so far for me and my family.  I hope that it has been for you as well!  If you had to name the three things you were most thankful for, what would they be?
